Our School

History

The Dubuque Montessori Country School opened November 4, 1968. Classes were conducted at Mount Carmel under the direction and staffing of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a parent advisory board.

The Dubuque Montessori School was born and incorporated under parent ownership ten years later and was moved to Clarke College. A fire in 1984 brought an end to this arrangement.

During the summer of 1984, parents signed a lease with the city of Dubuque and renovated the Slattery Center (known as the Barn Community Theatre) in Flora Park. Since then, DMS has leased the barn for the school, September through May. We remain a non-profit, 501(c)3, parent owned and operated.
