The Dubuque Montessori Kids Care Club
Have you heard of the Dubuque Montessori Kids Care Club Inspired by the book, Teaching Your Kids to Care by Deborah Spaide, the Dubuque Montessori School Kids Care Club was formed in March of 2001.
Charity is an ancient word that means to help others for the sake of love. Our belief is that the spirit of charity exists in all of us from the very youngest age. Children are motivated by a natural instinct for charity. Our challenge is to nurture this instinct very early in life. And so began, the Dubuque Montessori Kids Care Club. The great news is we are all members. We participate by extending charity into the community through various projects.
The club was kicked off by making over 100 sack lunches which were distributed to the Dubuque Rescue Mission. Since the first project in March of 2001, the Kids Care Club has partnered with many nonprofits in the community including:
* Dubuque Y Women's Shelter
* Operation New View
* Maria House
* Dubuque Humane Society
* Dubuque Rescue Mission
Other projects included: adopting a family in need during the holiday season, distributing May baskets to nursing homes, and making "Birthdays in a Box," (specially wrapped gifts including everything needed to make a child's birthday special), for the Dubuque Food Pantry.
Dubuque Montessori School has made a commitment to keep outreach a priority. There will be more projects to follow, and many opportunities to get involved.
